BRISTOL – Bristol is one of the 18 most fascinating small cities and towns to visit in the country, according to Expedia.com.
“If you bleed red, white and blue, then Bristol is the place for you,” the travel website states.
Expedia makes note of Bristol’s Fourth of July celebration, which is the country’s oldest, and dates back to 1785. It said that the town’s lane dividers on Hope and High streets show the town’s year-round national pride – they are tri-colored, representing the nation’s flag.
Expedia said it searched the country for the most unusual communities.

“Jarring art installations set against stark backdrops, bizarre architecture and peculiar traditions offer just a glimpse into the allure of intriguing small towns and cities across the nation,” Expedia wrote.
Bristol ranked 18th on the list, which placed Marfa, Texas, and Savannah, Ga., in the first and second spots, respectively.
Provincetown, Mass., ranked fourth.
“Bristolians already know that our cozy little town is both interesting and extraordinary, but it’s always exciting when we’re recognized for our exceptional qualities by a national outlet like Expedia,” Kathleen Seguin, owner and innkeeper at the Bristol House Bed and Breakfast and a member of Discover Newport’s board of directors, said in a statement.
“With impressive attractions like Blithewold, Mount Hope Farm, Coggeshall Farm, the Herreshoff Marine Museum, Linden Place and Colt State Park, plus terrific restaurants, shops, events and more, this recognition is well warranted,” Evan Smith, president and CEO of Discover Newport, added.
