Expert on aging to perform at Park Theatre

PROVIDENCE – In celebration of its 10th anniversary, PACE Organization of Rhode Island will host the “Age of Disruption” national tour featuring Dr. Bill Thomas, a geriatrician and aging expert, at the Park Theatre in Cranston on Thursday, May 19.

The 2016 tour includes Thomas’ signature nonfiction theater performance, “Aging: Life’s Most Dangerous Game,” featuring the unconventional pairing of a physician and a musician.

“As an innovative community-based model of health care, we are grateful for the opportunity to enrich the lives of older adults every day throughout the year,” Joan Kwiatkowski, PACE Rhode Island’s CEO, said in a statement. “Sharing Dr. Thomas’ highly disruptive and hopeful message about aging is the perfect way to celebrate our 10th anniversary.” The play has the power to inspire positive change for audience members and their communities, she added.

The event, with a cocktail reception and the play, begins at 5 p.m. at the Park Theatre, 848 Park Ave., Cranston; tickets, at $75 each, are available at www.pace-ri.org. Earlier in the day, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., the “Disrupt Dementia” community workshop will be held at the theater. Tickets, at $15 each, are at www.drbillthomas.org. “Disrupt Dementia” includes a documentary, an interactive musical performance and a community engagement workshop for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
