Extra charges if E-ZPass is incorrectly mounted

JAMESTOWN – The R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority raised toll prices on July 18 for E-ZPass customers who fail to mount their transponders correctly.

Improperly and unmounted E-ZPass transponders issued by RITBA not only require Newport Pell Bridge employees to raise the toll gate manually, but they are causing public safety and traffic issues, according to the agency.

For those who do not affix the E-ZPass to an automobile’s windshield correctly, RITBA has raised the toll to $2 per axle – $4 for a passenger vehicle – in an attempt to eliminate these issues. If a vehicle has more than two axles, the driver will pay higher fees.

In addition to the toll, repeat offenders will be charged a $25 administration fee. Serious repeat offenders may have to forfeit the transponder. •
