PROVIDENCE – The Foreign Policy Association last week presented Citizens Financial Group Inc. CEO with a Social Responsibility Award for “demonstrating exceptional corporate citizenship.”
The association, a nonprofit advocacy organization, gave the award to CEO Bruce Van Saun to commend Citizens and its commitment to community service and social responsibility, according to a press release.
“Bruce Van Saun is the public face of a financial institution that is part of the fabric of the communities it serves,” said Noel Lateef, president and CEO of the association, in a statement.
Citizens says its colleagues last year volunteered more than 59,000 hours and that it contributed more than $13 million to community activities. In addition, the bank says, about 450 Citizens leaders currently serve on community or charitable boards in the bank’s 11-state footprint.
Van Saun said in a statement he was honored to accept the award on behalf of the 18,000 Citizens workers who dedicated their times.
“Delivering on what we at Citizens call the ‘Three C’s’ – happy customers, engaged colleagues and thriving communities – is exactly what society wants from banks and what makes banks successful. We aim to be a leader on this agenda. Banks have a special opportunity to do a great deal of good for a wide range of people. That’s what drives me every day and I know it also drives our team at Citizens,” Van Suan said.
