FTC launches IoT Home Inspector Challenge

WASHINGTON – The Federal Trade Commission has launched the “IoT Home Inspector Challenge,” and is asking the public to create a technical solution that consumers can use to guard against security vulnerabilities in software found on Internet of Things devices in their homes.

The idea is to create a tool that would help consumers with security vulnerabilities caused by out-of-date software.

The top prize is $25,000, with $3,000 available for each honorable mention winner.

The deadline for registering and submitting entries is May 22. Winners will be announced on or about July 27.
