FarSounder debuts new feature for 3-D seafloor mapping

WARWICK – FarSounder Inc., a high-technology marine electronics manufacturer specializing in underwater acoustics, has released a new feature called Local History Mapping that offers users the ability to build a 3-D map of the seafloor over which they have recently sailed.
The map is updated with every ping and displayed as an overlay on top of the system’s nautical chart display. The new overlay is displayed with the real-time sonar overlay, and when used together, one can view what is ahead and what has been passed over, FarSounder said in a news release.
LHM capabilities will be included as part of its standard navigation sonar software starting with SonaSoft 3.3, according to the company.
