PROVIDENCE – For their February meetup, the Providence Geeks will host Teespring, a crowdfunding platform for custom apparel that recently closed on a $20 million funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz.
Launched in 2012 by Brown University students Walker Williams and Evan Stites-Clayton, Teespring allows customers to create custom shirts of their own design and finance the production of the shirts through a crowdfunding campaign. Teespring handles the production and distribution of the t-shirts, as well as customer service.
According to TechCrunch, which reported the $20 million investment in Teespring by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, thousands of campaigns are launched daily through Teespring’s web-based platform. The company employs about 70 people at offices in Providence and San Francisco.
Williams, co-founder and CEO, will join the Providence Geeks on Wednesday to tell the Teespring story, demonstrate the platform and talk about where his company is headed next.
The February meetup will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the AS220 in Providence. The event is free, but attendees buy their own food and drink.
