Feed the Children, Shuttlesworth team to help hungry

PROVIDENCE – Feed the Children and the Ted Shuttlesworth Evangelistic Association partnered with The King’s Cathedral to deliver one truckload of food and necessities on Aug. 15 to 400 Providence-area families in need.
The distribution event was held at Donigian Park at 228 Valley St.
Feed the Children’s partner agency, the nonprofit King’s Cathedral, identified families in need. They each received a 25-pound food box and a 10-pound box of basic necessities. The distribution was one of many planned across the country to help feed America’s children.
One in five children across the nation has parents who can’t afford to buy food, essentials or school supplies. In Providence, 29 percent of families live below the poverty line and are at risk of going to bed hungry.
“We call the U.S. the land of plenty, and for most of us, that’s true. Yet, millions of boys and girls are going to bed hungry every night,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children interim CEO, president and COO. “By combining efforts with the Ted Shuttlesworth Evangelistic Association and The King’s Cathedral, we are trying to put an end to that. These families are not only receiving food and necessities, but also the tools needed to break the cycle of poverty.”
The King’s Cathedral operates Christina ministries and other programs out of the King’s Cathedral in Providence.
Accredited by GuideStar Exchange and the BBB Wise Giving Alliance, Feed the Children maintains a 3-star rating from Charity Navigator. Through its network, the agency distributed more than $344 million worth of food, basic necessities, educational supplies, and medicine, in 2014, helping close to 9 million individuals in the U.S. and more than 4.9 million individuals globally.
