CUMBERLAND – In the four decades since he started the accounting firm of James E. Fenny CPA in Cumberland, James E. Feeney says he has developed a specialty advising clients in the construction and transportation industries.
Now, he hopes to broaden the scale of service he can provide by partnering with Boyd E. Foster Jr., to form Feeney & Foster CPAs.
“Boyd brings additional skills and expertise to the firm at a perfect time, which will benefit our clients going forward,” Feeney said.
Prior to starting the partnership, Foster was a principal at the accounting firm of Sullivan & Co. in Providence for seven years. His professional experience also includes six years with Providence Gas Co. and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.
Foster is certified with the Accreditation in Business Valuation. He also is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Foster hopes his background will help diversify the accounting firm.
“I’m hoping that with the different credentials that I have as accredited in business valuation and certified fraud examiner, that I can help some of his clients where he hasn’t perhaps been able to service them in the past,” Foster said. “Hopefully, I provide those additional credentials that his clients can utilize and also bring my client experiences with me in some of the industries that I’ve worked with.”
Foster earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Providence College and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Accounting from Roger Williams University.
Feeney & Foster is a full-service firm that specializes in accounting and auditing services for a variety of businesses as well as income tax planning and preparation services for corporations and individuals. The partnership will remain in Cumberland. The firm provides services to Rhode Island clients as well as clients throughout southern New England.
Feeney graduated from White Plains High School in New York and earned a business administration accounting degree from Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y. He is an honorary member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, vice chairman of the Rhode Island Board of Accountancy and is a former president of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He started his accounting practice in 1968 after beginning his career with Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery in New York City.
“It’s a great opportunity for me professionally,” Foster said. “He’s a good person to partner up with because of his reputation and experience.”
