PROVIDENCE– Fidelity Investments and CVS Health Corp. were honored by the National Business Group on Health for promoting healthy work environments.
They were among 64 companies recognized by NGBH, a nonprofit association of large U.S. employers, at its Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-Being Leadership Summit on Wednesday.
Winners were honored in one of two categories: platinum for exemplary workplace well-being programs; and gold, for making cultural and environmental changes and developing comprehensive programs that support employees’ healthy lifestyle goals. Twenty-six employers were honored with platinum awards, while 38 received gold awards.
Boston-based Fidelity, which has a large facility in Smithfield, received a platinum award, the top distinction for its workplace well-being program, Well for Life, of which more than 41,000 Fidelity associates and their family members participate. This marks the second consecutive year Fidelity has received the platinum award.

“We congratulate Fidelity for being among an elite group of companies that are making a difference every day in improving the health and overall well-being of their employees and families,” Brian Marcotte, president and CEO of the National Business Group on Health, said in a statement. “Fidelity and its leadership team are to be commended for their commitment to promoting healthy work environments and for their innovation in developing outstanding programs for employees that encourage good health and well-being.”

Jennifer Hanson, senior vice president for benefits at Fidelity Investments, said they are honored to receive the award.

“Fidelity understands that each of our associates and their family members has unique needs – each person is looking for something different from their health and wellness benefits. We are always listening to their feedback and are continually monitoring the latest industry best practices. This combination ensures we’re offering new programs, and making updates to existing ones, that we know will be appreciated and successful,” Hanson said.
Fidelity’s program features healthy dining options, on-site fitness centers, health and wellness centers, and free health screenings.
Well for Life also was enhanced this year to encourage stretch breaks and focus on mindfulness.

Desktop and calendar reminders now help to ensure associates are making time in their days to get up to move – either through guided exercises that can be done right at a desk and during a long meeting, or by walking outside with the help of a trail map.

Woonsocket-based CVS Health received a gold award for its WellRewards program. This marks the seventh year CVS Health has received an award for its colleague-focused health and wellness initiatives.
“At CVS Health, we believe that wellness is as important for our colleagues as it is for our patients and customers,” Lisa Bisaccia, executive vice president and chief human resources officer for CVS Health, said. “Our colleagues are our company’s most important asset, so it’s important that we help them get and stay healthy, and that we provide the resources and tools they need along the way.”
CVS Health’s WellRewards program helps colleagues improve their well-being with programs including preventive screenings, flu shots, smoking cessation, weight management, health coaching, health management for chronic and rare conditions, and maternity management.
In addition to tobacco-free corporate campuses, CVS Health offers team-based walking programs and healthy dining options in campus cafeterias.
Eaton Corp. Plc, based in New Jersey, but with offices in Warwick and the Rumford section of East Providence, also received a platinum award, as did UnitedHealth Group, a Minnesota company that also has significant operations in Rhode Island.
