Fidelity Investments and Rhode Island for Community & Justice held a series of Invest in our Youth workshops to improve financial literacy and job-hunting skills for 35 Providence high school students before the school year began.
The workshops were held at the University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein campus and students worked with members of Aspire, Fidelity’s Latino and black-employee resource group, to polish their resumes and interview skills, as well as learn budgeting tips. Fidelity believes that improving these invaluable skills will enable young adults to pursue the lives they want.
“An important focus of RICJ is youth programs and juvenile justice reforms, because today’s teens are tomorrow’s leaders,” said Toby Ayers, executive director of Rhode Island for Community & Justice. “These Fidelity volunteers helped these teens build skills that they can use today and it demonstrated to them that they are respected, important members of our community.”
The purpose of the five Employee Resource Groups at Fidelity is to increase understanding of diversity in the workplace to create an environment of mutual respect. •
