PROVIDENCE – A marketing communications firm is being sought to partner with the Rhode Island charter fishing industry to develop a marketing campaign for charter and party boat fishing in the Ocean State.
The effort is being supported by the Rhode Island Party and Charter Boat Association.
Rick Bellavance, president of the RIPCBA, said that the group wants to market larger party boats that can take anywhere between 20 and 100 or more passengers fishing. He said that most in the industry take six or fewer passengers.
Deepwater Wind LLC, which is building a 30-megawatt wind farm off the coast of Block Island, is funding the campaign.
“We are excited to fund this effort, which is part of our commitment to work proactively with the fishing community to help ensure that both of our industries can thrive in the future,” Jeff Grybowski, CEO of Deepwater Wind, said in a statement.
According to a news release, a marketing communications firm, ideally with experience in fishing, boating, outdoor activities and/or tourism, is being sought.

The firm should be able to deliver services including positioning and branding, consumer testing, creative and media plan development, and social and online marketing, as well as public relations and traditional advertising.
For information, visit www.rifishing.com. The release said respondents will get a good idea of what needs to be marketed by visiting the site.
Proposals must be delivered electronically by Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. to Dave Monti at dmontifish@verizon.net. He also can provide a copy of the request for proposals. Finalists will likely be presented to a selection committee the week of Sept. 21 and a firm selected during the week of Sept. 28. The plan is to relaunch the brand in January, the RFP states.
The target audience skews toward men ages 21 to 65. Customer types range from people who live in or outside the state who like to fish, but do not have a boat, along with tourists and sport fishing enthusiasts.
According to the RFP, the Rhode Island charter and party boat industry generates approximately $30 million in economic impact each year in the state. Of the 225 charter fishing license holders, approximately 65 of them belong to the Rhode Island Charter and Party Boat Association.
The total project budget for the first two years is $200,000, the RFP states.
