First Citizens plans Cape Cod growth

FAIRHAVEN – First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union is planning an expansion on Cape Cod, and that’s not the only place where members will find new First Citizens’ branches.
The $500 million credit union with more than 50,000 members said last week that it is moving into a former Sovereign Bank branch in Mattapoisett.
The First Citizens’ branch was set to open Sept. 13 at 2 Fairhaven Road and will be a full-service credit union with drive-up ATM.
The Cape Cod expansion plans are in the early stages, according to Peter Muise, First Citizens’ president and CEO. The credit union already has locations in Falmouth, Hyannis and Orleans.
“We have been very careful and prudent in our business dealings over the past few years, and as a result have been able to not only withstand the financial pressures, but to overcome them and grow,” Muise said. “Our expansion on the South Coast – and Cape, for that matter – is really a natural fit for us.”
Fairhaven-based First Citizens’, founded in 1937, has more than 50,000 members and more than $500 million in assets with 10 locations in southeastern Massachusetts. •
