BOSTON – First Wind, in an acquisition of Victus Solar developments in three Massachusetts towns, now holds the rights to just over 26 megawatts in solar-electric projects, reported the Boston Business Journal.
The three site purchase was made earlier this year, with new details emerging. Under management by First Wind, its solar operations from Victus include a 6 megawatt project in Freetown, 3.9 megawatt in Millbury and 17 megawatt across three sites in Warren.
Victus remains the owner of two other projects in Massachusetts, according to its website: one in Leicester at 6 megawatts and another in Lunenburg at 3.1 megawatts.
While the company’s attempts to initiate wind power projects in its home state have proven unsuccessful, its solar buy-ups put in on course to allegedly exceed its 250 megawatt solar generation goal this spring, in turn supporting Gov. Deval Patrick’s sustainable and renewable energy aspirations in Massachusetts.
“We’re excited about the possibility of having a renewable project in our home state,” First Wind Spokesman John Lamontagne told the news source.
First Wind currently touts 16 renewable wind energy projects nationally, totaling 980 MW, according to its website.
