PROVIDENCE – First Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen G. Dambruch has been named Acting United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island following the departure of former U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha, who resigned after being asked by President Donald Trump to do so.
In his new role, Dambruch will serve as the interim chief federal law enforcement officer for Rhode Island. He was named First Assistant U.S. Attorney in January 2014 after being appointed criminal division chief in February 2007 and Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2004.
Prior to his service with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Dambruch served as a state prosecutor with the R.I. Attorney General for more than 16 years, including in the capacity of chief of the Narcotics Prosecution Unit, chief prosecutor for Kent, Newport and Washington counties, and as deputy chief of the criminal division.
Dambruch holds an undergraduate degree from Providence College and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.
According to Dambruch, the leadership team in the U.S. Attorney’s office will remain the same going forward.
