Later this month, anglers will situate themselves in the waters between Cape Cod Bay and Block Island to cast their rods and fish for a cause.
The third annual Fishing For a Cause striped bass, bluefish, and fluke catch-and-release tournament, organized to benefit the Schwartz Center for Children, is scheduled to run Friday, June 21 12:01 a.m. through Saturday, June 22 at 4:00 p.m.
The event culminates with a celebratory awards dinner to be held seaside, under a tent, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at Pope’s Island Marina, 102 Pope’s Island, New Bedford.
The Schwartz Center anticipates that nearly 400 people will attend the catered dinner, which will feature music by the Providence-based band Santa Mamba. The dinner is complimentary to participating anglers and $100 for members of the public.
Interested anglers can register their own boats for a minimum of $750 or join the corporate or team challenge, in which anglers can form a team and participate in an all-inclusive fishing charter for minimum of $1,500 for three anglers, or for minimum of $2,500 for up to six anglers.
Trophies, prizes and bragging rights are all up for grabs. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.fishing4acause.org
