Ann McCrory is one of the top agents for Randall, Realtors, consistently named among its top 10 for both value and volume of sales. She responded this week to questions posed by the Providence Business News about the residential market.

PBN: You recently were recognized for having among the most transactions last year and among the highest dollar amounts for Randall, Realtors in Rhode Island. What does it take, frankly, to have that much volume in a year?
MCCRORY:
To be one of the top agents in Rhode Island takes dedication. Top agents work a seven-day work week and most importantly, they are organized and efficient. In order to do all those things, you need to love your job. Honestly, I never felt overwhelmed as [working with] every single buyer was like going shopping, and I love to shop! As for my sellers, I love making their new dreams come true, whether they’re looking for a larger home or perhaps single-family living or relocation.

PBN: What attracted you to the real estate profession?
MCCRORY:
I went into real estate because I always loved houses and I love helping people, and still do. I have made so many friends over the years and continue to do so. There is nothing more rewarding than to see someone “fall in love” with a house. It makes all the work worth every minute.

PBN: You recently became manager of Randall, Realtors’ North Kingstown office. Was that a difficult transition for you or a natural progression in your career?
MCCRORY:
I became the manager of the Wickford office in March 2016, so this is an additional job for me. I still actively list and sell. That is still my top passion, but I’m very much enjoying my new role as manager because I’m able to help my fellow Realtors achieve their real estate and financial goals. It’s a great feeling to help them be the best that they can be. So far, the transition has been comfortable. I’ve run a number of businesses in the past, so I walked into the manager role with a good foundation of organizational skills. But what has really made it seamless is the great group of Realtors that I’m fortunate to work with.

PBN: What is the market like in 2016, so far?
MCCRORY:
So far, 2016 has been extremely busy. Typically winter sales are a little slower but that was not the case this year. Many homes have gone into “multiple offers.” This is great for sellers, but a bit more challenging for buyers and Realtors. Rhode Island’s inventory of homes for sale is shrinking, so the market is favoring sellers in most areas right now. But buyers are still able to find good deals and lending rates are at all-time lows.

PBN: Is Rhode Island seeing more transactions this year because more people are listing properties?
MCCRORY:
We’re not seeing more properties on the market. We definitely need more listings, which hopefully will happen as the spring market unfolds. The lack of inventory is especially evident in the under $400K market. I think we’ve seen so many sales because the rates are so good that it really does not make sense to rent if you can buy. There are also numerous financial programs out there right now that can make homeownership a reality.
