Janna Ducich recently was named AT&T’s vice president and general manager for New England. She talks about her new position with Providence Business News. Ducich will oversee sales and operations of more than 1,300 employees, more than 200 AT&T-owned and authorized retailer locations across the six states, as well as national retail sales. She also will help guide the wireless network deployment strategy across the region. She previously was vice president and chief marketing officer of Cricket Wireless.

PBN: What do you hope you can bring to the job at AT&T?

DUCICH: I want to change the way New Englanders perceive AT&T. Being a marketer at heart, I am especially excited about the opportunity to communicate our company’s integrated technology vision to our customers. Today’s consumer craves simple, integrated technology. It’s actually amazing to think that with one device you can make phone calls, watch live television, monitor your home’s security and track your fitness activity – all at the same time. We tap on so many mobile applications in any given day, from making grocery lists to streaming movies to accessing sports scores, that we don’t even realize how integrated technology has already impacted our lives. It’s a new era for our company and our customers. I can’t wait to get started.

PBN: What do you like about the telecommunications field?

DUCICH: What we do, keeps people connected to their loved ones, their friends and their businesses. Technology is changing our lives in ways we may not even realize. For example, I don’t need to carry my laptop everywhere I go anymore. I can do everything from my phone or tablet. I can use my phone to buy snow boots for next winter (now that I’m a New Englander) with the click of a button. These are things that we take for granted that would not be possible without all of the growth in the telecommunications field. And, there is so much more to come, especially as the industry brings connectivity to new machines and devices.

PBN: How many AT&T-owned and authorized retailer locations are in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts? Are there plans for more this year in R.I. or southeastern Mass., and New England in general?

DUCICH: We have 14 AT&T-owned locations and 10 authorized retailers in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. We are constantly evaluating our store portfolio to make sure we have convenient locations for our customers. We are also focused on bringing new store designs and technology to our existing locations.

PBN: How does AT&T differentiate itself in such a crowded market?

DUCICH: It starts with building a great customer experience everywhere you live, work and play through fast, secure and mobile connectivity. Ultimately, we want our customers to be able to have the same great experience streaming their favorite TV shows on their phone, tablet, computer or television – wherever they go. We’re also proud of our commitment to diversity and corporate citizenship.

PBN: Are there any new initiatives underway at AT&T you would like to highlight?

DUCICH: With the recent addition of DirecTV to the AT&T family, New Englanders now have more choices – better choices – when it comes to staying connected and entertained. With more and more 4K programming being added, we really are in the midst of a television revolution. It’s so exciting to be a part of that – and to be able to bring this new technology to our customers.
