Jazz Napolitano has had a 10-year career centered on luxury residential real estate, concentrating on the East Side of Providence and the East Bay. This month, she became the broker/owner of the new RE/MAX Integra office in Pawtucket, RE/MAX On The Move, after working for seven years with RE/MAX. The office is located at Hope Artiste Village. She spoke with the Providence Business News about the local market.

PBN: Tell us about your career.

NAPOLITANO: I’m originally from the East Side of Providence. My concentration was always in the East Bay, Barrington, Bristol. Last year, I was the number two agent for RE/MAX in the state of Rhode Island. I closed over $17 million in sales. This year, I did the same, without a team. I really like RE/MAX because of its reach. We’re the biggest real estate company in the world.

PBN: What is the geographic focus of the RE/MAX On The Move office?

NAPOLITANO: The focus is statewide and southeastern Massachusetts.

PBN: You are an expert in relocation. Is the Providence area seeing more relocations in the past several years?

NAPOLITANO: Yes. Ninety percent of the relocation I do is to Oak Hill in Pawtucket, East Side of Providence, Barrington and East Greenwich. Those are the places that [appeal to] people [who] come in from Brown [University] or [Rhode Island School of Design]. I’ve done a lot of relocation for Fidelity Investments. The hospital will contact me and say, we have a young doctor coming in. I help people who are locating to Rhode Island, and who are relocating out. All of real estate is relocation, if you think about it.

PBN: What has changed in the last two years in the Rhode Island residential market?

NAPOLITANO: Listings are flying off the market. If you price your house well, it will fly off the market. Buyers are willing to pay more for a house that is more finished, renovated. Buyers are not as interested in fixer-uppers as they were before. People that are moving in, they have kids, both of them work. They don’t have time to renovate a house. They’d rather pay a little more for a house that’s already been done.

PBN: You are building a new team for your office. What do you look for in new agents?

NAPOLITANO: My office is a collaborative. I believe in open communications. I look for agents that are enthusiastic, hard-working. I don’t want any part-time agents. This is a full-time job. I am looking for hard-working, enthusiastic, joyful, friendly, outgoing agents that are good under pressure. Real estate is very stressful for people when they’re buying or selling. I’m looking for people who can defuse stress and get the job done.
