Sean Trifero, director of engineering for Envision Technology Advisors in Pawtucket, discusses the company’s new InFlight Cloud Platform, which won a “Better Way Award” recently at Dell World in Texas for Cloud innovation. Envision was one of only four companies recognized by Dell, from the hundreds of companies that applied to be considered. The InFlight Cloud Platform was created in partnership with the Prov.net datacenter on Westminster Street in Providence. In addition to the award, Envision’s CEO, Todd Knapp, also participated in an innovation panel at the Dell World technology conference, which attracts thousands of attendees.

PBN: How long has Envision Technology Advisors been in business and how many people do you employ?
TRIFERO:
Envision Technology Advisors was established in 1998. I personally have been with the company since 2008, when we were a total of 13 people. Now, almost 7 years later, we are comprised of about 45 people, including our Boston office.

PBN: When did the InFlight Cloud Platform debut and can you explain what it is?
TRIFERO:
InFlight debuted for production use late in 2013. It’s comprised of four major components – cloud based virtual server hosting, fully managed private cloud infrastructure, managed replication targets and management of virtual machines. The platform is unique because of its ability to adapt to a client’s needs. It’s the square peg that will fit in the round hole. We are much more flexible than most of the competition, and we are always exploring new ways to extend the service to address unmet needs in the marketplace.

PBN: What type of companies are using the InFlight Cloud Platform and what are the advantages of using it?
TRIFERO:
Our client base spans a number of different verticals, including accounting, appraisal / mortgage, education, healthcare, high-tech, pharma and marketing services. I think the biggest advantage is the ability for clients to have access to ultra-high performance equipment that they couldn’t otherwise afford. One of the other major advantages to InFlight is the platform’s flexibility, which allows for increased security and compliance. Because we allow customers to bring their own physical gear into the virtual environment, we can enable customers with compliance needs (physical data segregation, encryption at rest, SAS70 II, SSAE 16, HIPAA, etc.) to realize their requirements without walking away from existing investments they have made in technology.

PBN: Is cloud computing the wave of the future?
TRIFERO:
Not only is it the wave of the future, it’s the wave of the present! Adoption of the Cloud was slow after the “Cloud” buzzword started to emerge because at the time it didn’t have a clear definition. Now that the definition has taken shape, adoption is wide spread. The Cloud enables companies to geo-disperse their workforce and become much quicker in reacting to changing markets. Cloud services can also add flexibility to workflow and process, enable companies to afford technology and process that was previously unattainable, and the Cloud can also drive adoption and marketing efforts to make even a small company have the presence of a larger one.

PBN: Congratulations on the award. What else is the company working on?
TRIFERO:
Thanks! I am always honored to be part of the team at Envision. We’ve shared many successes and look forward to many more. As for what’s next, our Ground Control suite of Managed Services, which InFlight is part of, is something we are always expanding. The solutions we are working on around Managed Endpoint Services, including monitoring, remote patching and trend-analysis are very exciting and we have big plans for how we will continue adding to these solutions for the future.
