The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation raised $370,814 from its eighth annual Flames of Hope celebration, a three-day event held in Providence that promotes breast cancer awareness and education and honors people living with breast cancer.

A total of $65,766 came from the organization’s torch procession, where survivors and loved ones of people affected by breast cancer donated money to carry torches from the Statehouse steps to the Waterplace Basin. In addition, the event’s run/walk series brought in $305,048. Overall, the event exceeded the nonprofit’s goal of $250,000.

“We’re overwhelmed with appreciation for all of the support we received this year,” said Gemma. “Ninety cents of every dollar goes right back into the local community in the form of awareness, education and support programs to make breast cancer more survivable.”

The annual event helps support the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, which offers free programs and services to individuals affected by breast cancer. •
