Flames of Hope events approaching

PROVIDENCE – The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation will hold the seventh annual Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life breast cancer awareness event over Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 5-7, in downtown Providence.
The weekend will feature a kickoff event at the Providence Marriott Downtown on Orms Street on Oct. 5 before Celebration Village, in Station Park across Francis Street from the Providence Place Mall, opens on Oct. 6 at noon.
The village will include free health care screenings and healthy cooking demonstrations.
“Celebration Village is really a way for us to feature all of the different kinds of programming we offer throughout the state all year long, but in one day and in one place,” said Bryan Sawyer, Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation director of signature events and operations, in a statement.
Events continue throughout Saturday and end with the Gloria Gemma 5K, the foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year, on Oct. 7.
The weekend also includes the final full Waterfire lighting of the season.
