Fleury designed for success

Brittani Fleury, of Vision 3 Architects, recently earned her National Council for Interior Design Qualification certification, the highest certification in the industry by the Council for Interior Design Qualification. In addition, she was one of two recipients of an International Interior Design Association New England scholarship to attend NeoCon 2016 in Chicago.

Why did you initially decide to pursue a career in architecture?

I’ve wanted to be an interior designer since I was 13 years old, as my father worked with architects for many years and exposed me to the industry at a young age. I have always found joy in the built environment and over the years my passion for design has continually developed. I enjoy the psychological aspect of design and how a space can affect one’s overall experience.

In what ways will you apply what you’ve learned from earning your NCIDQ certification?

The NCIDQ exam is all about the health, safety and welfare of people within the built environment, and it certainly reinforces those concepts. But to me, receiving this certification is another tool to help advocate my profession. People often mistake interior designers for decorators, and though there is certainly a “decorative” aspect to our work, being an interior designer (especially in commercial environments) is research-driven and technically based. I am involved in all phases of design and construction and play a part in not only the finishes but the architectural detailing as well.

You received a scholarship through IIDA New England to attend NeoCon 2016. What did you gain from this experience?

Going to NeoCon was an amazing experience and an event I have wanted to attend for many years. In addition to being located in one of the most architecturally inspiring cities in the country, Chicago, going to NeoCon allowed me to conduct research for a handful of projects I am currently working on, see all the manufacturers’ latest and greatest new products, and network to make connections within the industry. I returned to New England with a head full of inspiration ready to pass on to my co-workers and our clients! •
