Flickers, RWU partner to present Jewish experience in film

BRISTOL – The Roving Eye International Film Festival, hosted by Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival with Roger Williams University and exploring the representation of the Jewish experience in Israel, internationally and during the Holocaust, will conclude on Nov. 13 with a talk by City University of New York associate professor Andrew Lund and the presentation of three films.

This year’s series, “Arts and Culture: Shaping the future, reflecting the past,” will see Lund, associate professor and director of the integrated media arts MFA program in the film and media department at the City University of New York’s Hunter College, speak about the theme of the final day, transcending boundaries.

The Sunday, Nov. 13 schedule features “The Promised Band,” directed by Jen Heck, a 99-minute documentary released in 2016. The film focuses on a group of Palestinian and Israeli women who have formed a fake band to explore their friendships.

In addition, two short films by the 2016 RIIFF award-winners, Kate Ascott-Evans’ 14-minute “Shoshannah’s Skateboard” released in 2016 and Lewis Rose’s 17-minute “The Chop” released in 2015, will be aired.
