FOUR STUDENTS employed at local markets and grocery stores were recently awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Rhode Island Food Dealers Association.

The Rhode Island Food Dealers Association recently awarded four scholarships to local students employed within the greater Rhode Island food industry.
Juan Roldan of Dave’s Marketplace, Justin Gaffney of Brigido’s Fresh Market, Rebecca Pacheco of Eastside Marketplace and Allison Perrin of Dunn’s Corner Market each received $1,000 to put toward the cost of their educations.
All four students were required to meet certain criteria outlined by the RIFDA and undergo an interview with the organization’s scholarship committee before being selected.
RIFDA established the scholarship program as a form of economic support for students and as an added benefit to its members and their employees.
The scholarships were presented to the students during RIFDA’s annual meeting and holiday gala, held Dec. 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Newport.
RIFDA represents more than 300 food organizations throughout the state, including grocery and specialty retailers, wholesalers, distributors, manufacturers, suppliers and brokers.
