BOSTON – The number of foreclosure petitions, auctions and deeds filed on Bristol County, Mass., homes all fell in November compared with the same month last year, The Warren Group said Wednesday.

There were 110 petitions, the first step in the foreclosure process, in Bristol County in November, down 15 percent from a year earlier. Statewide, there was an 8 percent year-over-year decline in foreclosure petitions.

Twenty-six foreclosure deeds were filed in the county, the last step in the foreclosure process, representing a 59 percent drop from a year ago. By contrast, statewide there was a 71 percent increase in finished foreclosures.

“An increase in foreclosure deeds tells us that the backlog of foreclosures is moving through the process,” The Warren Group CEO Timothy M. Warren Jr., said about the statewide figures. “The modest decline in petitions could indicate that an improving employment picture is leading to fewer mortgage delinquencies.”
