Foundation gets $40K for Armory district

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Foundation, in partnership with the Armory Arts District Streetscape Committee, has been awarded $40,000 to make over the Armory Arts District.
The two groups will introduce district banners and landscape enhancements to improve gateways in the district. The group intends to create visually branded banners that welcome the thousands of people that attend events and visit businesses in the district.
The work will be funded by a $40,000 federal community development block grant awarded by the City of Pawtucket, a $2,000 cash contribution and a $5,000 in-kind contribution by The Pawtucket Foundation. Additional contributions are expected from local businesses, designers and residents in the district.
The block grant was awarded in August, said Aaron Hertzberg, executive director of the Pawtucket Foundation.
The funding will enable the foundation to work with the neighborhood group on the project over the next several months, taking up to a year to complete it, he said.
