Foundation hosting open house

NEWPORT – The Newport Restoration Foundation will hold an open house on Tuesday, July 14, to celebrate the organization’s most recent project, the Dayton-James House. The house, which dates to 1758, is a three-story, one-room wide, end-to-the-street building with a gambrel roof. It is thought to be the only example of the style remaining in Newport, according to the organization.
The open house is free. Visitors may tour the completed renovation and view photographs of the structure before the work began. The open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The house, at 88 Bridge St., Newport, was purchased by the Newport Restoration Foundation in December 2011. One-story additions on the south and east sides of the property, which were constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries, were removed after the purchase was completed.
