Foundation remembers Cranston firefighter

CRANSTON – The family of Lt. James Pagano, the Cranston firefighter who was killed during a dispute at his 9-year-old son’s birthday party in May 2008, will host the inaugural Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation Golf Tournament on Aug. 13 at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston.

The fundraiser will benefit the recently established foundation, which will work to fund character-development programs for children in grades K-12 in academics, athletics, cultural education and physical/behavioral wellness.

“Our son was a devoted family man and sports enthusiast, as well as an active supporter of the Cranston community,” said Rose Pagano, Pagano’s mother, in a statement. “[The foundation] is an opportunity to turn tragedy into triumph, selflessness into purposefulness, and to honor the memory of a fine human being.”

Registration fee for the tournament is $150 for golf as well as lunch and dinner. Dinner tickets are available for $45.
