Foundation seeks arts fellows

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Foundation is seeking applicants for a literary arts fellowship program that will provide up to three $25,000 fellowships to midcareer Rhode Island writers.
The Robert and Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund was established at the Foundation in 2003.
Writers who “through seriousness of purpose and active engagement, are committed to their artistic practice” will be selected by the Foundation’s board of directors from recommendations submitted by an independent jury panel.
The foundation rotates the awards between composers, writers and visual artists on a three-year cycle. The 2013 fellowships will be in the visual arts and the following year in music composition.
Although the fellowships are unrestricted, fellows are required to submit a final report detailing their activities supported by the fellowship.
Applicants must prove Rhode Island residency.
Applications are due by Sept. 4 and the fellows will be announced in January 2013.
