WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, longtime Democrat from Massachusetts’ Fourth District, is slated to announce Monday at 1 p.m. that he will not run for re-election in 2012, according to CNN.

Frank, a 16-term Democrat and an “arch-enemy of political conservatives nationwide,” will hold a news conference in his district.

He serves as the top Demcorat on the House Financial Services Committee. He co-authored the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform bill. He was one of the first openly gay members of Congress, CNN said.
