Free dental clinic scheduled for June

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Oral Health Foundation will host the second annual free “Mission of Mercy” public dentil clinic on June 1 and 2 at the Dental Hygiene Clinic at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Flanagan Campus in Lincoln.

The clinic expects to provide free oral health care to more than 900 patients in need.

Last year’s inaugural clinic treated about 800 patients over the two-day period, providing more than $293,000 in free care for 330 fillings, 450 extractions, 220 cleanings, 30 root canals, and 45 removable partial dentures, according to organizers.

“I’m proud to be part of the Mission of Mercy free dental clinic again this year,” said Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts, chairwoman of the R.I. Healthcare Reform Commission and co-chairwoman of the R.I. Oral Health Commission. “The high rate of attendance at last year's inaugural event far exceeded our expectations, highlighting both the importance of and the need for access to preventive dental treatment and services in our state.”
