NORTH KINGSTOWN – Free rail service will be provided to this weekend’s Rhode Island National Guard Open House Air Show at Quonset State Airport, allowing individuals to board either at the Providence or Warwick MBTA stops.
The service, recently announced by the R.I. Department of Transportation, is new this year.
Trains would be provided both Saturday and Sunday morning with return trips planned for late afternoon and evening on both days at the end of the show. Capacity is limited, and is on a first come, first served, basis.
Those interested can catch the train at either Providence Station, 100 Gaspee St., Providence, or T.F. Green Station, 700 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. Train fares will not be collected, although attendees will be asked to consider making a donation to Hasbro Children’s Hospital when they arrive at the air show.
Free parking will be available at the state offices parking lots and at the T.F. Green Station/Interlink parking garage. Attendees traveling on the train are asked to only bring collapsible camp chairs. Information about what can and cannot be brought to the air show can be found at www.rhodeislandairshow.com.
“We are thrilled to have been able to work with our partners to bring another transportation option for people to attend this year’s air show,” Steven J. King, managing director of the Quonset Development Corp., said in a statement. “The air show is one of the prime opportunities for us to show off the tremendous growth at Quonset and this will allow people to see the first-class rail service we provide to our tenants as well.”
Seaview Transportation, the rail provider at the Quonset Business Park, will help pilot the commuter trains into the business park.
Trains will disembark on Zarbo Avenue, where riders will be able to access the Quonset State Airport and viewing areas for the show.

  1. Free Rail Service Available to Air Show…

“…Providence or Warwick MBTA stops.” There is no stop at “Warwick”… The stop is at TF Green Airport-Providence. It has NOTHING to do with Warwick. It is designed to move people from the airport to PVD and from PVD to the airport.
