Fundraising expands IYRS scholarships

NEWPORT – The International Yacht Restoration School has expanded its scholarship opportunities for students applying to the school’s three full-time programs.
The scholarships are the result of the school’s strong emphasis on raising scholarship funding, according to a press release. IYRS in 2011 set a goal of raising $4 million for scholarships during the 2011-2015 period.
Scholarships available for students seeking to enter the school’s programs in boatbuilding and restoration, marine systems or composites technology in fall 2013, for which the final deadline is July 1, include: The Van Beuren Charitable Trust Scholarship [$5,000 to a Rhode Island resident]; Marine Trades Scholarship for Women [$5,000 for a female student]; Antiques & Classic Boat Society Scholarship [$5,000 to a student attending boatbuilding & restoration program]; and Marine Systems [or] Composites Technology 50/50 Scholarship [to a student entering either the marine systems or composites technology program to receive scholarship support equaling 50 percent of the program’s tuition].
IYRS also offers general scholarships based on need. •
