GE Digital moving into ProJo building

PROVIDENCE – GE Digital will move into the Providence Journal building at 75 Fountain St., a spokeswoman for the company said Wednesday.
GE Digital currently has a temporary office at 10 Dorrance St., suite 700.
Amy Sarosiek, GE Digital, said the company selected the space for its walkable proximity to local amenities, such as the downtown area, train station, dining, shopping and urban housing options.

“The historic brick and beam architecture allows us to create an open office floor plan that works well for collaborative software engineering teams,” she wrote in an email.

She said that the initial 12,000 square feet will give the company space for 50 employees to start, with rights to expand to 20,000 square feet and 100 employees. Sarosiek said construction is expected to be completed this spring, at which time the office will open. The lease runs for seven years, she added.

GE announced in June its plan to open an information technology center that will develop new software applications and focus on high-performance computing.
The company, if successful in producing the 100 jobs, could be eligible for about $5.6 million in state incentives through the R.I. Commerce Corp.
“I am very pleased to welcome GE Digital to its permanent office in Rhode Island. I look forward to visiting with GE’s employees in downtown Providence and seeing what they are making in Rhode Island,” Gov. Gina M. Raimondo said in a statement.
The building was jointly purchased in June 2015 by Cornish Associates LP and Massachusetts real estate firm Nordblom Co. under the Fountainview Owner LLC umbrella.
Arnold “Buff” Chace, managing partner at Cornish Associates, could not be reached for comment.
