PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. has developed the first U.S. mobile lottery app for the Illinois Lottery, allowing players in the state to purchase Powerball, Mega Millions and Lotto tickets using their Apple or Android devices.
In addition to purchasing lottery tickets, players can check the latest jackpot amounts and winning numbers, find the nearest Illinois Lottery retailers, view a history of online and mobile purchases, and manage personal spending limits. Players receive an email notifying them of a win for any tickets purchased online or through the app, and cash prizes under $600 are deposited directly into the player’s Illinois Lottery online account.
“The lottery industry is quickly evolving into the interactive space and GTECH is ensuring lotteries stay at the forefront of this movement with the development of the mobile app, a first-of-its-kind in the United States,” said Matteo Monteverdi, GTECH senior vice president of iGaming. “Since its launch, the Illinois Lottery Official App has been downloaded more than 37,000 times and sales from the app in the past week now account for nearly 10 percent of Internet sales for Powerball, Lotto and Mega Millions.”
Under the management of Northstar Lottery Group LLC, a GTECH-led consortium, the Illinois Lottery became the first in the United States to allow residents to purchase lottery tickets via the Internet in March 2012. In September 2013, Illinois Lottery players were the first in the country to purchase lottery tickets with their smartphones via a mobile website.
The new mobile app developed by GTECH can be purchased through the Apple iTunes store for iOS, and from the Illinois Lottery website for Android users.
