GTECH Corp. recently held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two more After School Advantage computer labs, which were installed at West End Community Center and the Angelo Zuccolo Recreation Center, both in Providence.
“The new technology will provide local youth with essential computer literacy skills and homework assistance during the after-school hours, when kids are likely to get in trouble,” said Robert K. Vincent, senior vice president of corporate affairs at GTECH. “The GTECH After School Advantage program helps close the digital divide and open the door of opportunity with the latest technology for children who otherwise may not have access to these resources at home.”
Each of the After School Advantage centers includes roughly $15,000 in computers, educational software and other technology, furniture and volunteer hours. The West End and Zuccolo centers represent the 21st and 22nd computer centers, respectively, out of the 30 GTECH pledged to install in Providence over a 10-year period. •
