GTECH sustainability report cites commitment to responsible gaming

PROVIDENCE – Gaming technology provider GTECH S.p.A. released its 2013 sustainability report to communicate its commitment to responsible gaming.
This is the seventh edition of the report, which describes the company’s social, economic and environmental impact.
Last year, GTECH partnered with research centers, universities and industry experts to research problem gambling and to identify solutions to protect players. GTECH continued efforts to develop and institute responsible gaming tools including age verification, deposit limits, self-exclusion systems and referral services.
“GTECH has always been focused on the cultural and social issues that affect our industry. … GTECH was one of the first companies in the industry to advocate for responsible gaming, and to design and implement specific actions,” GTECH CEO Marco Sala said.
Programs focus on prevention of problem gaming, support for problem gamblers and their families, and prevention of underage gambling.
As for community outreach, GTECH employees in the United States and Canada last year donated more than 1,000 hours of time to local nonprofits focusing on education, health, social services, protection of animals and the environment, cultural events, and humanitarian causes.
In Italy, the company sponsored the reopening of an exhibit that contains an interactive science and business center at the City of Science in Naples that was destroyed due to arson.
Through its After School Advantage charitable program, GTECH installed 29 computer labs for at-risk children in communities where GTECH does business. Since the program’s inception in 1999, 223 computer labs have been installed.
The company says it has continued its focus on improving environmental practices. By recycling packaging components in Rhode Island, the company said it has reduced the amount of plastic going to the state landfill by 48 percent since 2011.
In June 2013, GTECH was recertified for ISO 14001:2004 for its environmental management system at its Coventry manufacturing facility. GTECH also received separate ISO 14001:2004 certifications for the Data Center of the Americas, Lottomatica’s Rome office, the National Response Center, and GTECH’s printing facility in Lakeland, Fla.
In 2013, GTECH’s total revenue by geographic segment was 57 percent in Italy, 32 percent in the Americas, and 11 percent in the international region.
