GTECH to launch 30th computer lab in Providence

PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. plans to unveil a new After School Advantage computer lab at Neutaconkanut Recreation Center with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 18.
GTECH’s donation of $15,000 worth of computer technology to Neutaconkanut includes eight Dell flat-panel computers, new computer workstations, refurbished work space and educational software.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, City Council President Michael Solomon, Councilman John Igliozzi and Neutaconkanut Recreation Center Executive Director Ray Tessaglia will join GTECH executives Wednesday, Dec. 18, for the dedication ceremony. Special guests Ed Cooley, head basketball coach for Providence College, and retired Boston Celtics player Ernie DiGregorio will also make remarks at the event, slated for 4 p.m. at the Neutaconkanut Recreation Center at 675 Plainfield St.
As part of GTECH’s tax-stabilization agreement with the city of Providence, the company agreed to donate a total of 30 computer labs to nonprofit organizations throughout Providence over a 10-year period. The Neutaconkanut Recreation Center lab is the 30th and final After School Advantage computer lab launched in Providence under this agreement and the 224th GTECH computer lab worldwide.
The new computer lab at Neutaconkanut Recreation Center will provide local youth with essential computer literacy skills to help them succeed, GTECH said.
