Galilee improvement project completed

NARRAGANSETT – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed and the R.I. Department of Environmental Management recently marked completion of the port improvement project at Galilee.
The project rehabilitated the port’s primary pier for large vessels and reconstructed a section of bulkhead that supports waterfront businesses and ferry and charter services, according to a news release.
Reed helped to secure a $2.9 million federal grant for the work, through the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
The port of Galilee is one of the largest commercial fishing ports in New England and is home to more than 240 commercial boats. More than 56 million pounds of seafood landed at the port last year.
