PAWTUCKET – The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre was awarded a $25,000 grant to bring its production of Macbeth to 10 or more local public schools at little or no cost, the theater announced Tuesday.

The grant came from the Shakespeare in American Communities Program, operated through Arts Midwest and the National Endowment for the Arts. It will also fund Gamm to create residencies and lead workshops and discussions in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls public and charter schools.

The program awarded 40 such grants — totaling $1 million — to nonprofit theater companies around the country, allowing them to bring live Shakespearean plays to middle and high school students during the 2013-2014 school year.

Gamm’s production of Macbeth is currently scheduled to run next March 6 - April 13, during which time the company will also perform in the schools.

“Receiving our first major NEA grant from what is an incredibly competitive field is proof positive of our growing reputation for high-quality Shakespeare and for our incredible educational outreach activities,” Tony Estrella, Gamm’s artistic director, said in a statement.
