CRANSTON – Garden City Center is moving forward with development and leasing for a fourth phase, a 30,000-square-foot structure that will add room for several shops and restaurants at the open-air, mixed-use center.

The company recently completed demolition of a one-level, brick office building between the Bank of America and Newport Creamery to make room for the new phase, said Tom Wilder, a principal for development and asset management at The Wilder Companies, which manages the center.

Site work on the new construction will begin in the spring, Wilder said, with substantial construction to follow by summer. The fourth phase in the commercial development is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.

An architectural rendering prepared for the project indicates it will support several retail outlets, but also space for restaurants with outdoor seating.

In addition to Newport Creamery, Garden City Center already hosts restaurants Bistro 22 and Avvio Ristorante.

Over the past four years, development at the Cranston center has progressed regularly, said the city’s principal planner, Jason Pezzullo.
