Gas in R.I. flat, falls in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – For the first time this year, gasoline prices in Rhode Island remained unchanged for the week, according to AAA Southern New England, as the cost of self-serve, unleaded regular remained at $3.81 per gallon in the trade group’s weekly survey of service stations in the Ocean State.

Nonetheless, average prices have risen 22 cents per gallon over the last month and are now equal to the national average price of $3.81 per gallon.

A year ago, gas cost $3.56 per gallon on average in the Ocean State. Prices ranged from $3.96 per gallon for medgrade unleaded to $4.07 for premium to $4.20 for diesel.

At the same time, gas prices in Massachusetts fell, by 2 cents over the last week, to $3.72 per gallon for unleaded regular. Bay State prices were 15 cents per gallon higher than a month ago as well as 25 cents per gallon above the price from a year ago.

Prices ranged from $3.85 per gallon for midgrade unleaded to $3.95 for premium to $4,16 for diesel.
