Gas prices continue summertime decline in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell 1 cent in Rhode Island and 6 cents in Massachusetts this week, AAA Northeast said Monday.
AAA said self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.21 per gallon in the Ocean State, 7 cents above the national average of $2.14.
A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 47 cents higher at $2.68.
“Strong supplies and falling oil prices continue to fuel savings for motorists at the pump,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement.
Prices for unleaded regular gas range from $1.97 to $2.46. The average price of other gasoline grades are as follows: $2.47, midgrade unleaded; $2.63, premium unleaded; and $2.36, diesel.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.09 per gallon, 5 cents below the national average. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 50 cents higher at $2.59.
Prices for regular unleaded in the Bay State range from $1.93 to $2.99 per gallon. Midgrade unleaded has an average cost of $2.41 per gallon, while premium unleaded has an average cost of $2.57; and diesel, $2.40.
