Gas prices drop 5 cents in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gas prices are continuing their downward spiral in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, dropping 5 cents from last week, according to AAA Southern New England’s weekly survey of gas prices.

AAA, in its Nov. 3 survey, found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.11 per gallon in Rhode Island, which is 5 cents lower than the previous week. Prices locally also are 29 cents lower than a month ago, but are 12 cents higher than the national average of $2.99.

A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was 29 cents higher at $3.40. Unleaded regular prices in Rhode Island range from $2.97 to $3.29.

Average per-gallon prices for different grades of self-serve gas ranged from $3.40 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.53 for premium unleaded and $3.63 for diesel.

In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices dropped 5 cents to $3.05 per gallon.
Prices locally are 28 cents lower than a month ago in Massachusetts, but 6 cents more than the national self-serve average. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was 26 cents higher at $3.31.

Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.88 to $3.43. Average per-gallon prices for different grades of self-serve gas ranged from $3.31 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.45 for premium unleaded and $3.64 for diesel.

The latest numbers reflect the ninth week of gas price declines in Rhode Island, and eighth week of price drops in Massachusetts.
