PROVIDENCE – Gas prices have dropped in Rhode Island and Massachusetts this week, though they remain higher than the national average, AAA Southern New England reported Monday in its weekly survey.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular ran $3.77 in Rhode Island, according to the Aug. 5 survey, three cents lower than last week. The Massachusetts average fell two cents to $3.69 per gallon.
Both prices were higher than the national average price of $3.61.
Rhode Island’s average price was up 18 cents from a month ago and nine cents from this time last year, when the average gallon cost $3.68.
The Massachusetts average price was also higher than last month, by 21 cents, and 11 cents higher than the average price of $3.58 this week last year.
