Gas prices hold steady in R.I., increase 1 cent in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – For the second week in a row, self-serve regular gasoline prices stayed the same in Rhode Island, but increased by 1 cent in Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast’s weekly price survey.

In Rhode Island, self-serve, regular gasoline is holding steady at $2.37 per gallon, 8 cents lower than a month ago, and 3 cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded at $2.40. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was more than a dollar higher at $3.61.

Prices range from $2.23 to $2.52. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.57, midgrade unleaded; $2.72, premium unleaded; and $3.02, diesel.
In Massachusetts, regular gasoline prices inched up a penny to $2.35 per gallon. Prices in the Bay State are 7 cents lower than a month ago, and 5 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.54.

Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.13 to $2.59. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.57, midgrade unleaded; $2.71, premium unleaded; and $3.03, diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Vehicles should be serviced immediately if the emissions malfunction indicator or “check engine” light comes on.
