Gas prices increase again in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – For the second week in a row, gasoline prices increased in Rhode Island, according to AAA Northeast’s weekly price survey.

Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices in the Ocean State rose 6 cents from last week, and are averaging $2.54 per gallon, 17 cents higher than a month ago, and a penny less than the national average of $2.55.

A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.18 higher at $3.72. Prices range from $2.29 to $2.65. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.75; premium unleaded, $2.86; and diesel, $3.02.

Massachusetts gasoline prices also increased, and are 8 cents higher than last week, AAA Northeast said. Self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.55 per gallon in Massachusetts; locally, prices are 22 cents higher than a month ago, but match the national average.
A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was $1.14 higher at $3.69.
Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.31 to $2.69. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.73 for midgrade unleaded; $2.85 for premium unleaded and $3.02 for diesel.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Keep your eyes open for lower fuel prices, but don’t waste gas driving to a distant filling station to save a few cents.
