PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices rose 4 cents in Rhode Island and Massachusetts from last week, according to AAA Northeast.

Gas prices increased for the fourth week in a row in Rhode Island, and for the fifth consecutive week in Massachusetts.

AAA Northeast said that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.65 per gallon in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The price is 2 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.67. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.71, while in Massachusetts, it was $3.67.
Prices in Rhode Island range from $2.49 to $2.76. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.84 for midgrade unleaded; $2.98 for premium unleaded and $3.01 for diesel.
In Massachusetts, prices range from $2.39 to $2.79. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.82 for midgrade unleaded; $2.94 for premium unleaded and $3.03 for diesel.
AAA offered a fuel-saving tip: Check the air filter at least twice a year. A dirty filter won’t affect fuel economy on a modern fuel-injected car, but will reduce engine performance.
