Gas prices rise in R.I., fall in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices rose 2 cents in Rhode Island but declined by the same amount in Massachusetts this week, AAA Northeast said Monday.

Gas prices are averaging $2.24 per gallon in Rhode Island, and $2.16 in Massachusetts.

Rhode Island’s price is 8 cents below the $2.32 national average for regular unleaded, while Massachusetts’ price is 16 cents lower than the national average. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was $1.78, and the average price in Massachusetts was $1.71.
Prices for regular unleaded in the Ocean State range from $2.14 to $2.35, with midgrade unleaded at $2.51; premium unleaded at $2.73; and diesel, $2.53.
Prices for regular unleaded in the Bay State range from $2.01 to $2.39, with midgrade unleaded at $2.44; premium unleaded, $2.60; and diesel, $2.56.
